Afina Ashraf

'My work explores the intimate histories, everyday lives, and quiet resilience of women, with a current focus on the Kerala Muslim community. Through painting and personal and community archives, I draw on photographs, oral histories, domestic objects, and traditions to explore memory, womanhood, faith, craft, and domestic labour. Using layered forms, patterns, and textures, I create visual narratives that preserve and celebrate the often-unseen experiences of women across generations.'

Afina Ashraf is a visual artist from Calicut, Kerala, born in 2003. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur in 2025.

Her practice is primarily based in painting, along with cyanotype and mixed media. Her work explores themes of womanhood, drawing from personal experiences and observations within her community.

She is currently part of the Immersion Fellowship. Recently, she received the 3rd Prize at the Harvard India Conference Open Call, and her work was exhibited as a digital print at the India Conference held at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School.
