About Afina Ashraf
Afina Ashraf (b. 2003, Calicut, Kerala) is a visual artist working primarily in painting, cyanotype, and mixed media. A 2025 graduate of the Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur, her practice centres on the intimate histories and quiet resilience of women, particularly those from the Kerala Muslim community, whose experiences are often underrepresented in mainstream narratives. Drawing on personal and community archives such as photographs, oral histories, domestic objects, and musallah traditions, her layered works create visual narratives that honour memory, craft, faith, and domestic labour. She is currently part of the Immerse Fellowship 5.0 and recently received the 3rd Prize at the Art@ICH – Inaugural India Conference Open Call, with her work exhibited at Harvard Business School and Harvard Kennedy School.
Beyond her home institution, Ashraf has participated in a growing number of exhibitions across India. In 2025, she was part of the Ravi Jain Memorial Foundation Annual Exhibition at Dhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi, and the Side by Side Multimedia Art Exhibition at the Museum of Goa. Earlier, in 2023, she exhibited at Contemporaries from the Fine Arts at Charcoal Art Gallery, Ponnani, Kerala. These exhibitions reflect a practice steadily gaining visibility on both regional and national platforms.
