Pem Lham

Pem Lham (b. 1997, Thimphu, Bhutan) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans installations and paintings, rooted in an introspective exploration of identity, culture, gender, and lived experience. She holds a BFA in Visual Arts from Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, where she was a recipient of the UMISAA fully funded scholarship. Her work centres on the Molay a figure drawn from traditional Bhutanese mask dance used as a subtle, satirical lens to examine societal conditioning, patriarchal dynamics, and the layered complexities of womanhood, particularly the quiet relationship between mother and daughter.

Pem Lham has exhibited extensively across Bhutan and internationally. Her recent shows include Unveil the Lungta (Lungta Art Festival, 2026), 108 Offerings at Vast Bhutan (2025), her first solo exhibition Molay Moley (2025), Bhutan Festival in Leuk, Switzerland (2025), Strokes of Happiness (Bhutan Art Show in Delhi, 2025), and Her Expression Volume VIII (All Women National Art Exhibition, 2025). In 2024, she participated in the Bhutan–Taiwan Natural Elements International Art Exhibition, a group exhibition by BNU alumni at Siddhartha Art Gallery, Nepal, the Bhutan Innovation Forum, Her Expression VII, and Portraiture in Earth Color. Earlier exhibitions include Innovation for Change Art Lab (Kathmandu, Nepal, 2023), Her Expression VI (2023), Healing with Happiness (Brussels, Belgium, 2022), Metamorphosis (Royal Textile Art Competition, Thimphu, Bhutan, 2022), the Royal Textile Academy Art Competition (Thimphu, Bhutan, 2021), artworks displayed at Paro International Airport (2021), and the South Asian Art Camp (New Delhi, India, 2012).
