Saskia Pintelon ( born in Belgium in 1945 ) is indeed a highly versatile artist known for her diverse range of artistic expressions. Her journey through various artistic realms such as figurative painting, abstraction, text-based art, and collage reflects her profound engagement with local and global issues, politics, and everyday life experiences. Pintelon's works often delve into themes such as the human condition, environmental concerns, and the cyclical nature of existence, intertwining her reflections with a keen observational eye.
Employing a variety of techniques including appropriation, collage, and image manipulation, Pintelon constructs visually engaging narratives that encourage viewers to contemplate a wide spectrum of topics such as age, beauty, gender, loneliness, economics, and the impact of internet culture, often infused with subtle humor.
Pintelon's artistic journey began with her education at St. Lucas in Ghent, Belgium in 1967, where she later
served as an art teacher. Her exploration of diverse cultural influences led her to Sri Lanka in the 1980s, which significantly enriched her artistic perspective. Over the years, her work has gained international recognition, with exhibitions at prestigious events such as the Dhaka Art Summit (2016, 2022), and Colombo Art Biennale (2016), as well as numerous solo and group exhibitions across Europe, the U AE, and various countries in South and Southeast Asia.
Represented by esteemed galleries such as Saskia Fernando Gallery in Sri Lanka and Yavuz Gallery in
Singapore and Sydney, Pintelon 's art continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Notably, she has
exhibited with Mendes Wood in Sao Paolo, including a milestone show commemorating the gallery's 10th anniversary. Additionally, Pintelon has showcased her works in prestigious museums and art foundations in Belgium, such as the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens and Fondation C AB, further cementing her position as a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene.
